BREAKING: Josh Pate put efforts for Oklahoma transfer portal
The spring transfer portal window in college football has closed, but reflecting on the most significant moves remains relevant.
Josh Pate took this opportunity on Late Kick Live, broadcasted via the 247Sports Network and CBS Sports, to spotlight the biggest winners of the spring portal window. He identified programs that excelled during this period, notably Oklahoma.
“Oklahoma is one of the winning teams of the spring transfer portal window,” Pate commented. “Firstly, because they secured a very talented player.”
“When Oklahoma added Damonic Williams, who has been widely discussed for various reasons, it sent a strong message,” Pate continued. “He’s a standout player, a 6-foot-2, 320-pound defensive tackle from TCU and a former two-year starter. LSU and many other teams were keen on him, but Oklahoma landed him. This is significant not just because he’s a great player, but also symbolically. It shows that Oklahoma is progressing as needed.”
As the Southeastern Conference expansion looms, some feel Oklahoma is being overshadowed by Texas as a new SEC member. Texas, having reached the playoffs, has garnered much attention. However, Pate warns against overlooking Oklahoma. The Sooners are making strategic moves to prepare for a strong season.
“Everyone’s talking about Texas, and rightly so,” Pate noted. “Their roster looks impressive ahead of the SEC move. But Oklahoma, despite not having as high expectations as Texas this year, is not lagging. They are aggressively pursuing every avenue to enhance their roster.”
Oklahoma also added highly-rated offensive lineman Branson Hickman in the spring, along with other promising transfers from the previous window who shone during spring practice. These additions solidify OU as a spring portal winner.
“Oklahoma added around four talented transfers,” Pate said. “Looking back, Deion Burks, who excelled in spring, further underscores Oklahoma’s success. All indicators suggest Oklahoma is a winner.”
