BREAKING: Miami Dolphins Sign 25-years old WR to $84.75 million contract extension with $76 million guaranteed
The Miami Dolphins have secured another wide receiver with a hefty contract. According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, Jaylen Waddle is set to sign a three-year extension worth $84.75 million, with $76 million guaranteed. This places Waddle as the NFL’s fourth-highest-paid receiver, just trailing his teammate Tyreek Hill.
Waddle, who became eligible for an extension this offseason, has consistently surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three NFL seasons. His impressive rookie performance included setting a record with 104 receptions, a mark recently eclipsed by Puka Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams. In 2022, Waddle led the league with an average of 18.1 yards per reception, racking up a career-best 1,356 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Miami’s move comes amidst a dynamic shift in the wide receiver market. While they made Hill the highest-paid receiver in 2022, recent signings like Amon-Ra St. Brown and A.J. Brown have surpassed that benchmark, with new average annual values (AAVs) of over $30 million. By locking in Waddle with a top-five salary, the Dolphins are strategically staying ahead of the escalating market.
Looking ahead, the focus for the Dolphins appears to be on extending quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
