Friday night marked a significant milestone for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as they wrapped up their 2024 training camp and pre-season with an exciting game against the Toronto Argonauts at the University of Guelph. This event also brought the journey to an end for many players competing for a place on the Tiger-Cats’ 2024 roster. The Tiger-Cats have now revealed their final roster cuts for 2024, highlighting the intense competition and high stakes of the CFL. Moreover, they have announced the players who have secured a coveted spot on Hamilton’s practice roster, showcasing their talent and potential.
Additions to the Tiger-Cats Practice Squad Roster
Players Cut from the Tiger-Cats Active Roster
With the conclusion of training camp, the Tiger-Cats needed to reduce their roster to 45 active players. Some players, such as National defensive lineman Mason Bennett, American wide receiver Omar Bayless, and Global punter Bailey Flint, were cut from the roster despite expectations of remaining. Several others competed during the Tiger-Cats pre-season games but did not secure a place on the 2024 roster.
On the defensive line, the Tiger-Cats cut National defensive linemen Dyton Blackett, Anthony Federico, and Mitchell Townsend, along with American defensive linemen Darrius Moragne, Adam Plant Jr., Derrick Tangelo, and Cedric Wilcots. Hamilton also released linebackers, including Americans Aaron Hansford and Marvin Pierre. In the defensive backfield, National defensive back Johnathan Giustini and American defensive backs Shakur Brown, Arquon Bush, and David Vereen were cut from the roster.
On the offensive side, American quarterback Kevin Thomson was cut. The team also released several wide receivers, including Americans Chris Coleman, Dev Holmes, Marcus Rogers, TJ Vasher, and National wide receiver Jacob Patten. Additionally, two American tight ends, Michael Ezeike and Camren McDonald, were cut. In the backfield, National running back Matthew Peterson and American running back Calvin Tyler Jr. did not make the roster. The Tiger-Cats also released several offensive linemen, including National offensive linemen John Kourtis and Jakub Szott, and American lineman Kendrick Sartor.
With these roster cuts, the evaluation of players during training camp is complete, and the Hamilton coaching staff now turns their focus to the CFL regular season. The Tiger-Cats will open the 2024 regular season by traveling to Calgary on Friday, June 7th, at 9 pm EDT. Week 1 presents a significant opportunity for starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to return to Calgary, where he played the majority of his CFL career before joining Hamilton.
