SHOCKING: 30-years old top superstar open up on shocking trade deal
Stefon Diggs has found a new home. After months of speculation about his dissatisfaction with the Buffalo Bills, the star wide receiver was indeed placed on the trade block. The rumors became reality when he was traded to the Houston Texans during the offseason. Now, Diggs will team up with the promising quarterback CJ Stroud as he pursues his first championship ring.
A few months following the trade, Diggs opened up about his move to the Texans. According to DJ Bien-Aimé of ESPN, the wide receiver described the trade as a “breath of fresh air.”
“They’re very welcoming,” Diggs said. “Very open arms, and I just feel like it’s important for me to be a part of things like that. It’s genuine. You thrive in that space. You thrive in a space where you’re loved. Thrive in a space of being around those who truly care and truly want to see you win.”
Stroud also shared his thoughts on the acquisition of Diggs. The Texans’ quarterback highlighted Diggs’ immediate impact as a leader and noted that the wide receiver values being surrounded by other highly competitive players.
“Diggs has come in and been a leader, which I’m proud of him for, just really has been unselfish and wanted to see other guys eat,” Stroud said. “That was his main thing. He wanted to be around other dogs, and he stepped into that role where there is a dog everywhere. He looks right, he looks left, there is going to be a dog. He wanted that and that’s what we bring to the table. He’s been nothing but amazing so far, and I am very excited to work with him.”
Will Stroud-Diggs partnership work for Texans?
The blueprint for a quarterback’s success in the NFL this season involves pairing him with an elite wide receiver. The Bills acquired Diggs from the Vikings for this very reason, and it paid off. This trend is evident across the league: every contending team boasts a top-tier QB-WR duo. The Texans already had a strong core around Stroud, but adding Diggs theoretically elevates them to the next level.
Unlike other teams that followed this strategy, Stroud is already ahead of where Allen and Jalen Hurts were when their teams traded for Diggs and AJ Brown, respectively. Allen and Hurts faced significant struggles before those trades, dealing with major flaws that held them back. In contrast, Stroud had an outstanding rookie year, earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and even entering MVP discussions.
However, what looks good on paper doesn’t always translate to success on the field. Despite their combined talents, the Texans’ new star duo will need to find an approach that works for both of them. Additionally, there’s the issue of Houston’s other stars potentially receiving fewer touches. While this presents a challenge, it’s a good problem for Houston to have. The true test will be seeing how this new superteam performs in the 2024 season.
