Rutgers maintains its strong momentum in recruiting for the Class of 2025.

Tuesday evening saw the declaration of commitment from four-star receiver Michael Thomas III via social media. The Donovan Catholic receiver had garnered offers from various prominent schools such as Michigan, Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Maryland.

Thomas III, currently ranked 108th in the ESPN 300, holds the position as the third-best player in New Jersey and the eighth among wide receivers. Rutgers boasts three players ranked 108th or higher, as per ESPN.

Recognized for his exceptional athleticism and explosive capabilities, Thomas III has emerged as one of the top wide receiver prospects on the eastern seaboard. Standing at 5 feet 10 inches and weighing 200 pounds, he has showcased his speed not only on the football field but also as a standout track athlete. During the spring season, he clocked an impressive 10.83 seconds in the 100-meter dash and achieved a long jump of 21 feet 6 inches.

In his junior year, Thomas III amassed 34 receptions for 467 yards and seven touchdowns, along with contributing 420 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

With 23 commitments, Rutgers currently leads in the number of commitments for the class. This follows a busy weekend that saw the commitments of four-star recruits Tariq Hayer and Joshua Blackston. Additionally, offensive lineman Jaelyne Matthews recently became the highest-rated prospect in Rutgers’ class, propelling the team to ninth in national rankings.

Thomas III joins a talented cohort of receivers in Rutgers’ recruiting class, alongside commitments from Sah’nye Degraffenreidt of Atlantic City and Vernon Allen of Baltimore, followed by Jourdin Houston from St. Thomas More.

Head coach Greg Schiano and his team have been actively recruiting over the past couple of weeks, securing commitments from top prospects who have chosen Rutgers over prestigious programs across the country. While anticipation builds for the upcoming 2024 season, the coaching staff remains dedicated to attracting top-tier talent to uphold the program’s stature.
