BREAKING: Boston Celtics Legend controversial their current Superstar
Living NBA legend Bob Cousy recently expressed his desire for the Boston Celtics to win their 18th championship while he is still alive.
“I’m 95 years old, with one foot in the grave, and I can barely move,” Cousy remarked, according to Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe (via Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report).
“I know I’m in overtime, so everything in life becomes more significant. One of my last wishes is to see the Celtics raise banner No. 18.”
Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy shares thoughts on Kyrie Irving
The 95-year-old Bob Cousy, a six-time NBA champion with the Celtics and the 1957 NBA Most Valuable Player, also commented on the Celtics’ performance against Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving in the 2024 NBA Finals. Cousy noted that Boston’s defense has limited Irving’s impact, suggesting that Irving is no longer performing at a superstar level.
“The Celtics have exposed Kyrie Irving as not quite a superstar,” Cousy stated. “He has been severely subdued. They’re not even trapping him a lot. They’re doing it one-on-one. Kyrie’s working his ass off, and they’re still stopping most of his stuff. He’s no longer in the superstar category. You’ve got to function in the playoffs to determine where you are in the hierarchy.”
Despite Irving’s recent 35-point performance in Game 3, which ended in a 106-99 Mavericks loss, he has struggled overall in the series. Dallas will continue to depend on him offensively as they aim to extend the series to a fifth game on Friday. Through the first three games of the finals, Irving has averaged 21.0 points on 40.0 percent shooting from the field and 28.6 percent from three-point range.
