BREAKING: Blue Jays ink 30-years old superstar to league deal
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed right-handed pitcher James Kaprielian to a minor-league contract, as noted on the team’s transactions page.
Kaprielian, 30, played for the Oakland Athletics over the past four seasons and underwent shoulder surgery last August.
In 2023, he pitched in 14 games, recording a 2-6 record with a 6.43 ERA and a 1.590 WHIP across 61.0 innings.
Kaprielian was initially selected 16th overall in the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft by the New York Yankees from UCLA. He was traded to the Athletics in 2017 as part of the deal that sent Sonny Gray to New York.
Throughout his career, Kaprielian has appeared in 66 games, including 58 starts, and has a 15-20 record with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.349 WHIP over 318.0 innings, striking out 282 batters and issuing 133 walks.
