Buckeyes stars landed to Championships
In Columbus, Ohio, five members of the Ohio State Buckeyes are set to compete for their university at the upcoming Senior Nexus Championship. Scheduled for July 14-16 at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va., the event will feature Emily Barker, Katie Fichtner, Anne Marie Krebs, Claudia Thomas, and Makenna Webster from the scarlet and gray team.
The Senior NXC gathers 144 top-tier collegiate and post-collegiate athletes. Leading up to the championship, these athletes underwent trials and training at one of the seven USA Field Hockey High Performance Centers nationwide. Selection for the Senior NXC included athletes previously named to the U.S. U18, U21, and Development Women’s National Teams.
As part of the Olympic Development Pathway program, the Senior NXC offers a chance for selection into various teams, including the 2024-25 U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team Selection Camps, Junior USWNT Selection Camps, U.S. Women’s National Development Squad, and U.S. Women’s National Team.
The event commences with a team training session on Sunday, July 14, followed by games starting on Monday, July 15.
Among Ohio State’s representatives, four played significant roles in the previous season. Webster, the team’s top scorer and a third team All-American, stands out. Fichtner, Krebs, and Thomas each started 20 games. Additionally, Barker, a freshman last fall, earned recognition as the Player of the Year in Ohio during her senior year at Upper Arlington in 2022.
