JUST IN: OU lands crucial key man in transfer portal
Emmett Jones, the wide receiver coach at Oklahoma, has been extremely active in Norman this week. On Monday, the Sooners secured a surprising commitment from four-star wide receiver Marcus Harris out of Mater Dei High School in California. Less than a week later, three-star wide receiver announced his decision to join Brent Venables’ squad.
Choice, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound receiver from Lancaster, Texas, conducted his official visit to Norman on Friday following previous visits to Texas A&M, Missouri, and TCU. He becomes the fourth wide receiver commitment for Oklahoma’s 2025 recruiting class.
This offseason, Oklahoma also bolstered its receiving corps by adding Purdue transfer Deion Burks through the transfer portal. Despite previous challenges in finding consistent production beyond Drake Stoops, the emphasis on adding offensive playmakers remained a top priority for Venables and his coaching staff.
2025 QB recruit Kevin Sperry is helping recruit
247Sports national recruiting analyst Tom Loy spoke with Kevin Sperry, the first recruit committed to Oklahoma’s 2025 class, during the Elite 11 finals. Sperry mentioned he has been actively recruiting for his future team since committing in March 2023. He specifically highlighted his efforts to bring four-star tight end Da’Saahn Brame from Derby, Kansas, who is set to announce his commitment on June 29. Sperry also identified four-star edge rusher Max Granville as another player he’s been targeting.
Meanwhile, following her fourth consecutive national championship win, Oklahoma softball head coach Patty Gasso faced the task of rebuilding her roster for a potential fifth title. The rebuilding process began with the addition of Isabela Emerling, a transfer from North Carolina. Emerling, who committed to Oklahoma on Friday, is known for her batting average of .323 and 14 home runs from her time as the primary starting catcher for the Tar Heels. She offers positional flexibility with experience at first base, and is expected to step into the role vacated by Kinzie Hansen behind the plate.
