JUST IN: St. Louis CITY SC Signs another 22-years old key man
St. Louis CITY SC has secured forward Brendan McSorley and defenders Jayden Reid and Michael Wentzel on a brief loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, St. Louis CITY2. McSorley, Reid, and Wentzel are set to bolster the squad for Saturday’s MLS match against Atlanta United at CITYPARK.
Wentzel, making his fourth call-up, faces his final opportunity after this weekend’s game. McSorley earns his second call-up of the season, having recently debuted in MLS against the Colorado Rapids. Reid, meanwhile, receives his first call-up of 2024.
Wentzel, 22, has been pivotal for CITY2 this year, captaining them to a 9-2-2 record with five clean sheets from the backline in 10 full 90-minute appearances out of 14 matches.
McSorley, a product of Providence College and a native of Randolph, New Jersey, has started 12 matches for CITY2, scoring two goals in his tenure. He notably had a standout senior season at college, scoring 11 goals and providing one assist in 17 starts.
Reid, 22, formerly of the Red Bulls Academy, joined CITY2 after signing as the 29th Red Bulls Homegrown player. He has started all 13 matches for CITY2, contributing two assists from his left back position. Last year, Reid featured in 15 matches for New York Red Bulls II.
According to MLS regulations, clubs can utilize short-term agreements to bring in players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliates for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship, and exhibition matches. Each player can be included on up to four MLS season match rosters annually, with a limit of two appearances in MLS league matches per player.
