Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott remains confident that 35-year-old edge rusher Von Miller still has much to contribute despite his severe knee injury. McDermott recently disclosed that Miller has not fully recovered from the ACL tear he sustained on Thanksgiving Day 2022. However, the team is very hopeful about his potential in 2024.

“Recovering from an ACL tear is a challenge in the first year,” McDermott said on former Bills center Eric Wood’s podcast. “Now that we’re into the second year post-injury, we’re excited to see his progress, how he’s moving, and the impact he’ll have on our team. You can never count out a player like Von Miller.”

The Bills are banking on this optimism after signing Miller to a six-year, $120 million contract in March 2022. Initially, the investment seemed wise, as the eight-time Pro Bowler recorded eight sacks and one forced fumble in the first 12 weeks before his injury.

However, Miller’s 2023 season was less than ideal. He began the year on the reserve/PUP list and, upon returning in October, struggled with just three tackles and no sacks, falling behind other edge rushers on the depth chart.

Despite doubts about whether Miller’s best days are behind him as he enters his 14th NFL season, McDermott remains confident in his potential.
