The Green Bay Packers are set to undergo a significant change in their front office for the 2025 season. Edward Policy has been named the new Chairman, President, and CEO. According to the team’s official announcement, “Edward R. Policy, the Green Bay Packers’ chief operating officer and general counsel, has been elected as the organization’s next Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO. He will officially take over in July 2025 at the Packers Annual Meeting of Shareholders, succeeding Mark Murphy upon his retirement.

Policy has dedicated his career to football executive roles. He started in 2001 as the Deputy Commissioner and President of the Arena Football League and was promoted to Acting Commissioner in 2008. He later joined the NFL as an Executive Consultant for the 2009 and 2010 seasons before joining the Packers in 2012.

Murphy, a former safety and Super Bowl champion with the then-Washington Redskins (1977-1984), transitioned to executive roles at Colgate, Northwestern, and finally the Packers. Since 2007, he has been a key figure in the Packers’ transition from the Brett Favre era to the Aaron Rodgers era. Murphy also led a stock offering that financed significant upgrades to Lambeau Field, completed in 2013. Despite the controversial firing of Mike McCarthy, Murphy has been a respected CEO.

Murphy will retire on July 13, 2025, his 70th birthday, passing the torch to Policy, who has been with the Packers for 13 seasons. Policy started as Vice President and General Counsel in 2012 and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2018. He will work with Murphy during a 13-month transition period, including collaboration with the NFL for the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay.

Policy was unanimously elected as the franchise’s 11th Chief Executive Officer by the Packers’ Board of Directors. Murphy praised Policy’s promotion, saying, “Congratulations to Ed on this well-deserved promotion to what I believe is the most unique and meaningful position in professional sports. Ed has been a tremendous asset to the organization during his 12 years here and has greatly contributed to our success. His work on Titletown has been particularly impactful. He is highly respected both within the organization and the NFL. I have enjoyed working with him and am confident he will be an excellent steward for the organization.”

With the team’s current momentum heading into 2024 and quarterback Jordan Love leading the charge, Policy will play a crucial role in ushering in a new era of Packers football, aiming to return to NFC dominance.
