LATEST: Top rated key man earn up to $56.5M with Phillies
Cristopher Sánchez’s new contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, covering 2025-28, could rise to $56.5 million over six years if he wins Cy Young Awards in both 2029 and 2030.
Announced on Saturday, Sánchez’s deal includes a $2 million signing bonus and annual salaries of $1.5 million in 2025, $3 million in 2026, $6 million in 2027, and $9 million in 2028. The Phillies have options for 2029 at $14 million with a $1 million buyout, and for 2030 at $15 million with a $1 million buyout.
These option amounts could increase based on his Cy Young voting results from the previous year: $2 million for first place, $1 million for second or third, $750,000 for fourth or fifth, and $500,000 for sixth through tenth. A Cy Young win in 2028 would also increase the 2030 option.
Currently 27, Sánchez has a 5-3 record with a 2.67 ERA over 15 starts this season. He signed a one-year contract for 2024, earning $753,500 in the majors and $280,432 in the minors.
He would have been eligible for arbitration after the 2025 season, and the options could cover his first two seasons after reaching free-agent eligibility.
