BREAKING: Miami football received its first commitment from defensive lineman in the 2025 class
The Miami football program has secured its first defensive line commitment for the 2025 class with three-star prospect Herbert Scroggins announcing his decision on Friday morning. This continues Miami’s recruiting momentum, with Scroggins becoming the first defensive lineman in the 2025 class. Defensive line coach Jason Taylor has proven his recruiting prowess over the past two classes.
Scroggins, ranked as the 407th overall prospect, 29th edge rusher, and 46th player in Georgia, hails from Savannah Benedictine Military School. With his commitment, Miami’s 2025 class now includes 14 commits, boosting their national ranking to 15th. This follows the commitment of four-star cornerback Chris Ewald on Thursday evening.
In June, Scroggins visited Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Miami, with a scheduled visit to Auburn in September. Before his Miami visit, Scroggins had been leaning towards Auburn. However, the humility of head coach Mario Cristobal and the opportunity to play for Jason Taylor influenced his decision.

Scroggins committed to Miami following his official visit to Coral Gables last weekend. He is the ninth commitment to Miami’s 2025 class in June, which now includes eight offensive and six defensive commits.
According to Steve Wiltfong of On3, Scroggins recorded “84 tackles, 12 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 14 quarterback hurries” during his junior year in 2023. Standing at 6’2″ and 235 pounds, he will need to add muscle mass as an edge rusher. Some outlets have also referred to him as an outside linebacker.
Scroggins will add depth to Miami’s 2025 roster, especially with the expected departures of transfer edge rushers Elijah Alston and Tyler Baron after the 2024 season, and defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor, who will be eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft.
