The Detroit Tigers’ recent slump is pushing them towards becoming sellers at the upcoming trade deadline. Following their defeat by the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night, the Tigers are now seven games under .500 and struggling in the American League standings.

Currently trailing the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians by 15 games and being seven games out of the third Wild Card spot, Detroit’s chances of making the postseason appear increasingly slim. Consequently, there is growing speculation that they might trade several players before the July 30 deadline.

Zachary Rotman of FanSided has identified four Detroit Tigers who could be traded before the deadline:

1. **Andrew Chafin**: The veteran left-handed reliever has been a dependable bullpen option throughout his 11-year MLB career. Despite a 4.32 ERA this season, Chafin has not allowed a home run to left-handed hitters and has limited them to a .233/.313/.279 slash line.

2. **Shelby Miller**: Miller has performed well in relief roles this season, posting a 3.86 ERA in 21 appearances. Despite missing about a month due to injury, his return has been strong, with a .171 opponent batting average, increasing his trade value. Miller could be an attractive option for teams needing bullpen depth.

3. **Mark Canha**: Despite the Tigers’ struggles, Canha has been a consistent performer, boasting an impressive .921 OPS against left-handed pitchers. With his $11.5 million contract expiring at season’s end, he is expected to attract interest from teams looking to enhance their offense.

4. **Jack Flaherty**: The offseason signing of Flaherty has been fruitful for the Tigers, as the right-hander has delivered a solid 3.24 ERA in 15 starts. His 115 strikeouts against 14 walks over 89 innings and a 1.00 WHIP make him a prime trade target. A bidding war for Flaherty is likely, which could benefit the Tigers.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Detroit Tigers are at a crucial point. Potential trades of players like Andrew Chafin, Shelby Miller, Mark Canha, and Jack Flaherty signal a strategic move to rebuild and focus on future success. While it may be disappointing for fans to see key players leave, this approach could provide the foundation for a stronger Tigers team in the coming seasons.
