NEWS NOW: Texans landing top rated star from free agent
Right now in the NFL offseason, most of the attention is fixated on one particular free agent. While there are several intriguing team matches still available, the focus remains on the imminent decision of Justin Simmons. Just a few years ago, Simmons earned All-Pro honors as a safety for the Broncos, and it’s likely he still has a few solid seasons ahead of him, if not more. Given his desire to likely finish his career with a Super Bowl contender, the number of teams vying for his talents isn’t extensive.
According to Albert Breer, though, the Texans have managed to enter this conversation. In his recent mailbag, Breer addresses where Simmons might end up, and surprisingly, Houston makes an appearance in his response.

I’m excited about the idea of Justin Simmons joining a defense like Vic Fangio’s style with the Broncos since 2019, or a Seattle Seahawks-type defense. That’s why I think he’d be a great fit as the center fielder in the Niners’ defense, which historically plays the Seattle three scheme. They’ve also brought in Brandon Staley, who Simmons knows well from the Fangio coaching tree. Houston would also be an interesting fit for Simmons, for similar reasons.
There you have it! That short sentence at the end is enough for me! I don’t need to hear more about Vic Fangio, Cover 3, or Brandon Staley—I’m convinced Justin Simmons is coming to the Texans. It would be a fun fit, Albert. Plus, Houston’s current safety depth chart wouldn’t block Simmons from a starting role. Come to Houston, Justin Simmons. Don’t overthink it—Albert says it would be fun, and I agree. And sometimes, “it’d be fun” is reason enough.
