After a busy three-week period of visits, discussions, and tough decisions, Brian Tapu concluded his quest by committing to the school he had long desired. Tapu, a three-star offensive line prospect from Salt Lake City’s West High School, announced his commitment to Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting class on Thursday. His decision marks Nebraska’s first offensive line commitment and the 12th overall pledge for the class.
Tapu had shown a strong inclination towards Nebraska in the weeks leading up to his official visit on June 14, following which he also visited Oregon State the subsequent weekend. Initially committing to Oregon State after his visit there, Tapu surprisingly reversed his decision just three days later, realizing he had found his future school without needing further visits.
“I wanted to explore more colleges, but Nebraska has always been my top choice,” Tapu explained. “I’m grateful that the coaches believe in me and want me there.”

Tapu’s path to football is unique—he recently completed his first season after moving to the United States from New Zealand, a journey that separated him from his parents for over a year. Nebraska’s gesture of flying his parents to Lincoln for his official visit left a profound impression.
“It was incredibly meaningful to see my parents; I really missed them. Nebraska’s gesture meant a lot to me. They truly embody a family atmosphere, which made me feel comfortable throughout the visit,” Tapu shared.
Another crucial factor in Tapu’s decision was his relationship with offensive line coach Donovan Raiola, with whom he shares Polynesian heritage. Nebraska pursued Tapu vigorously, recognizing his potential as one of the top offensive tackle prospects in the Class of 2025. With his commitment secured, Tapu now looks forward to his developmental journey, eager to capitalize on the opportunities Nebraska offers.
“Nebraska has the best facilities I’ve seen,” Tapu noted. “They are not just focused on football but also on developing players into well-rounded individuals. That’s what impressed me the most—they care about their players’ futures beyond football.”
Tapu’s commitment represents a significant addition to Nebraska’s recruiting efforts, bolstering their offensive line with his size, standing at 6-foot-7 and 295 pounds, and potential on the field.
