Fantastic Reply: Caitlin Clark Delivers Response to Criticism From Indiana Fever Coach
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been making waves in her rookie season, recently setting a record as the fastest player in WNBA history to accumulate 300 points, 100 assists, and 100 rebounds, achieving this milestone in three fewer games than any previous player.
Despite this impressive feat, Fever head coach Christie Sides believes Clark should adopt a more aggressive approach. Following Indiana’s 89-77 loss to the Seattle Storm, Sides remarked that Clark should be taking at least 15 shots per game. Currently, Clark averages 12.2 field goal attempts per game, having only reached the 15-shot mark in six of her 19 games this season. With a significant portion of her attempts being three-pointers (8.0 3PA/G), Sides suggests that Clark could increase her total shots by incorporating more floaters and midrange jumpers.
In response to Sides’ comments before Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury, Clark said, “As long as we move the ball and get the best shot for the team, that’s good with me.
I think at times I can be a little more aggressive and maybe not overpass as much, but at the same time, I feel like we’re getting good shots.” She then directly addressed Sides’ remarks, adding, “I want to set my teammates up for success. I love passing the ball.

Throwing a great pass is almost more exhilarating than making a great shot. For me, I don’t feel like I need a specific number of shots. I know Christie knows that too; I just think she wants me to be a little more aggressive, and I can certainly do that too.”
Clark, ever professional with the media, acknowledged her coach’s perspective while asserting that she doesn’t need a set number of shots per game, understanding the balance between individual and team success.
