REPORT: Heart And Soul Forward Re-Signs New Contract With Carolina Hurricanes
Jordan Martinook has re-signed a new contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes. The deal will run for three years and carry an average annual value (AAV) of $3.05 million.
Jordan Martinook Signed to New Deal
Jordan Martinook has been the heartbeat of the Carolina Hurricanes for many years. A prototypical bottom-six forward, he plays with a lot of energy and excels on the forecheck, while also contributing offensively. Originally a 2012 second-round draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes (now Utah), Martinook was traded to Carolina in 2018 and has since played the rest of his career in North Carolina.
While not a top point producer, Martinook set a career high in goals this past season with 14, and the previous year achieved a career high in points with 34. His most notable offensive performance came in the second round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he had four consecutive multi-point games after being held scoreless in the first round.

A true heart-and-soul player, Martinook gives everything he has on the ice and is a positive locker room presence. Often playing on a line with Jordan Staal, they consistently excel in driving play and maintaining possession, making them an analytic dream for the Hurricanes.
What This Means
As many teams like the Hurricanes have found, having valuable players in the bottom-six who can play fast and adopt a “playoff-style” game is crucial. This is precisely what the Canes have in Jordan Martinook. He can kill penalties, play physically, and while he may not be a true top-line forward, he can temporarily slide up the lines if needed. Additionally, he has a seemingly never-ending motor and is highly effective at maintaining possession and establishing a heavy forecheck.
For Martinook, the quick and painless end to free agency uncertainty is a relief. At 31 years old, he is not the oldest player in the league but is certainly a veteran. Continuing his career with the Hurricanes is something Martinook should be excited about, having earned it through his positive attitude, hard work, and ability to contribute in a depth role.
