BREAK: Suns sign another top rated key man
If there is one thing the Phoenix Suns need, it’s help at the point guard position. Today, they received some. Adrian Wojnarowski reported earlier today that the Phoenix Suns signed Collin Gillespie to a two-way contract. Gillespie will be going into his second year in the NBA as he spent his rookie season with the Denver Nuggets.

In his rookie campaign, Gillespie averaged 3.6 points and 1.1 assists per game, shooting 46% from the field and 39% from three-point range. He also played eight games for the Nuggets’ G-League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold, posting impressive stats with averages of 21.1 points, 10.5 assists, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. During this stint, he shot 44.8% from the field and 39.7% from beyond the arc.
The addition of Gillespie may not be seen as a flashy move, but with the Suns establishing their new G-League team this season, they can now scout and develop young talent similar to other competitive teams in the league. It’s worth noting that Gillespie, at 25 years old entering his second NBA season, is slightly older compared to peers like Nassir Little and Bol Bol, with Devin Booker just two years his senior and entering his tenth NBA season.
Having spent five years at Villanova before entering the draft, Gillespie brings experience from a winning culture, having been drafted into Denver’s successful environment alongside three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. Now, he joins a locker room featuring Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. Ultimately, this move represents a strategic acquisition by the Suns, aiming to capitalize on potential and maximize value over time.
