Four-star linebacker from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, was initially expected to stay in-state for college football. His top three schools were Miami, Florida State, and Oregon, with the Ducks being a notable contender despite their Big Ten affiliation as a championship contender.

Ultimately, Nix has decided to commit to the Miami Hurricanes. In an interview with On3’s Steve Wiltfong, Nix cited Miami’s consistency, unwavering support, and the familial atmosphere they provided throughout his recruitment process as key factors in his decision.

Linebacker Gavin Nix Commits To The Miami Hurricanes

Nix’s commitment marks a significant addition for Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff. Ranked as the No. 11 linebacker recruit in the 2025 class by 247Sports, Nix also holds a spot in the top 100 overall recruits at No. 88.

Beyond the coaching staff and Cristobal’s vision, Nix was impressed by Miami’s strong NFL-focused alumni base, which includes legends like Jon Beason, Jonathan Vilma, Rohan Marley, Calais Campbell, and Edgerrin James. He highlighted the accessibility of these NFL figures during visits as a unique and influential aspect of Miami’s program.

Looking ahead, Nix aims to build on his impressive junior season at IMG Academy, where he recorded 42 tackles, including seven tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, and one sack in eight games.
