Good News: Ohio State announces commitment of a top rated crucial star
One of Ohio State’s key remaining targets in the 2025 recruiting class, safety Trey McNutt, is set to announce his college decision on Friday, July 19.
McNutt also revealed his five finalists on Wednesday. He will choose from Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas A&M, and USC.
The Scarlet and Gray extended an offer to the in-state prospect in April 2023. McNutt has made several unofficial visits to Ohio State’s campus, although he did not have an official visit there this offseason. Instead, he visited his other finalists: USC on May 31, Florida on June 7, Texas A&M on June 13, and Oregon in late June.
Despite not having an official visit to Ohio State this offseason, McNutt is expected to visit during the Buckeyes’ 2024 season, regardless of his commitment.
McNutt did make a one-day unofficial visit to Ohio State in early May.
“I had a good time,” McNutt told Bucknuts’ Bill Kurelic. “We went around campus, took campus tours, and spent time with (safeties) coach (Matt) Guerrieri. He’s been recruiting me hard. We spent a lot of time together.
“I also hung out with (cornerbacks) coach (Tim) Walt(on), coach (Gerren) DuHart, and (head) coach (Ryan) Day. We have a good relationship.”
Ohio State already has three safety commits in their 2025 class. According to the 247Sports rankings, Faheem Delane from Olney, Maryland, is the fourth-ranked safety. He is joined by three-star safeties DeShawn Stewart and Cody Haddad. The Buckeyes also have commitments from five-star cornerbacks Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord, creating a strong secondary class for this cycle.
Despite their success in recruiting defensive backs this cycle, Ohio State has made significant efforts to add McNutt to their top-ranked class. They will soon find out if their efforts have been successful.
