DEAL DONE: Oregon State on a huge agreements retained by Washington
Earlier this afternoon, it was announced that the Washington State Cougars and the Oregon State Beavers, affectionately known as the “Pac-2” or the “Survivors of the Pac-12,” will retain their ties to the Pac-12 bowl games for the upcoming season.
I first saw the news on an ESPN headline and couldn’t be more excited.
But what does this mean?
On June 12th, the former Pac-12 conference announced deals with the Holiday Bowl, LA Bowl, Sun Bowl, Independence Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, and Alamo Bowl for the 2024/2025 season. More details about the dates of those games can be found here.
These bowl games had agreements that ran through 2025, and while some legal intricacies are beyond my understanding, it’s clear that despite the challenging realignment process, the contracts will remain in place through the 2025 season.
The bowl committees will maintain their selection process, considering both current and former Pac-12 schools. And who controls the revenue, again?
More importantly, this provides an opportunity for WSU and OSU athletes to compete at their usual level, which is ideal for student-athletes and fans alike. Isn’t that the most crucial aspect of the post-season?
Every article I read about this (at least five) echoed the same sentiments, ending with the same quote. Yet, the novelty didn’t wear off. I see this as a beacon of hope that we can either rebuild the conference or enjoy the extra revenue for a season or two, and then reach new heights.
Go Cougs, and Go Beavs!
