Huge Boost: Chicago Cubs Confirms Another Major Deal
Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder, has signed a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs, marking his second stint with the team. The 33-year-old has had a nine-year MLB career with notable time spent with the Dodgers from 2016-17 and again from 2022-23.
During his first season with the Dodgers in 2016, Thompson impressed with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs over 80 games. However, he struggled in 2017, hitting just .122 with one home run and two RBIs in 27 games while dealing with injuries and spending significant time in Triple-A.
Afterward, Thompson played for the Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox, Cubs, and San Diego Padres before returning to the Dodgers in 2022 via trade. In his first season back with the Dodgers, he delivered a solid performance, slashing .268/.364/.537 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs in 74 games. Unfortunately, his 2023 season was marred by a strained oblique, dropping his batting average to .155. He was later traded to the White Sox along with Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure in exchange for Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn.
Now back with the Cubs for his second stint, Thompson will be playing in their minor league system. He started the 2024 season in the New York Mets’ minor league system before this recent move to the Cubs.
