HUGE DEAL: Titans confirm huge deal with 28-years old crucial key man
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Thursday, the Tennessee Titans signed Jamal Adams, a three-time Pro Bowl safety.
Adams, 28, was the sixth overall pick in the 2017 draft by the New York Jets and earned All-Pro honors in 2019. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks three years later but was released in March.
Seattle saw Adams as a key addition when they traded two first-round picks to the Jets before the 2020 season. They reinforced this belief by signing him to a four-year deal worth up to $70 million after his first year with the team.
Adams dealt with injuries to his shoulder and fingers, but a torn quadriceps tendon in the 2022 season opener had the most significant impact on his career. It took him over a year to return, and even then, his playtime was limited.
Adams had two years remaining on his contract with Seattle but no guaranteed money left.
This signing further strengthens the Titans’ secondary. General manager Ran Carthon has already added two cornerbacks since the end of last season, trading for Chiefs standout L’Jarius Sneed and signing Chidobe Awuzie in free agency.
Adams will reunite with Tennessee’s new defensive coordinator, Dennard Wilson, who was his defensive backs coach with the Jets.
In 80 starts, Adams has accumulated 494 tackles, 21.5 sacks, four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 36 passes defensed, 50 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. Since 2017, his sack total is the highest among NFL defensive backs.
