Short Gun: Steelers set to sign Jordan Love with Justin Fields as key deal influencer
The Pittsburgh Steelers are aiming to bounce back from a disappointing 2023 NFL season where they made the playoffs but were quickly eliminated. The primary issue for Pittsburgh last season was their offense, particularly at the quarterback position, as former starter Kenny Pickett struggled to keep the team on track.
Head coach Mike Tomlin had to make do with what he had, but the team addressed the quarterback situation in the offseason by signing Russell Wilson in free agency and trading for Justin Fields. These were fortunate moves for Pittsburgh, as Wilson was released by the Denver Broncos, and Fields became expendable after the Chicago Bears secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Wilson is expected to be the starter, though Fields could potentially challenge him for the role when the team reports to training camp.
During the offseason, Fields was seen working out with Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, as reported by B/R Gridiron. The short clip showed Fields and Love taking snaps and running what appeared to be a scramble drill, climbing up in the pocket before launching the ball downfield.
In Chicago, Fields demonstrated flashes of being a dual-threat quarterback with a strong arm and excellent running ability. While his accuracy and decision-making could improve, it’s clear why the Steelers were willing to take a chance on his potential.
