LATEST: Paul Finebaum Issues Six-Word Expectation For Kalen DeBoer At Alabama
Few college football personalities share the unique relationship Paul Finebaum has with the Alabama Crimson Tide. He confessed that the past six months since Nick Saban’s retirement have been the “worst of his life.” Finebaum, known for his candid opinions on programs, is holding new Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer to the same high standards he held Saban.
In just six words, Finebaum summed up his expectations for DeBoer in his first season after leading the Washington Huskies to a national championship appearance: “He better get to the playoffs,” Finebaum stated on Wednesday morning’s episode of Get Up.
Having just come off a national championship appearance himself, DeBoer has already shown he can meet the high expectations that Finebaum and Alabama fans have for the team. “Alabama is used to playing in the national championship game, so if Kalen DeBoer doesn’t make it to the playoffs this year, it’s a bust,” Finebaum added.
Making the playoffs in 2024 with Alabama should be a more achievable goal than what DeBoer accomplished with the Washington Huskies in 2023. There are eight more playoff spots available this upcoming season, and it remains uncertain if there will be as many undefeated and one-loss teams competing for a spot after the 2024 regular season.

Finebaum still maintains a high standard for the team in Tuscaloosa, and missing the playoffs this year would be even more disappointing than in previous years.
