DEAL DONE: Ohio State football announce 5-star commitment
COLUMBUS, Ohio — One of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting cycle, Trey McNutt, will make his commitment announcement at 6 p.m. on Friday. McNutt, the nation’s top safety and the No. 2 player in Ohio, is considering Ohio State, Florida, Oregon, Southern California, and Texas A&M.
UPDATE: McNutt has rescheduled his announcement date.
Hailing from Cleveland and attending Shaker Heights High School, McNutt is a five-star prospect per the 247Sports Composite rankings and has had an offer from Ohio State since April 2023.
Despite this, Oregon is seen as the frontrunner for McNutt’s commitment, with expert predictions from 247Sports and On3 heavily favoring the Ducks. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Model gives Oregon a 93.2% chance of landing McNutt.
Ohio State, boasting the nation’s top 2025 class, has already secured five commitments from 2025 defensive backs. Among them are five-star cornerbacks Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord. At safety, the highest-rated commit is four-star prospect Faheem Delane.
Ohio State legend Jayson Tatum?
Jayson Tatum has emerged as one of the NBA’s stars since beginning his career with the Boston Celtics in 2017 after being drafted from Duke. However, his fourth-grade vision of the future was quite different.
In an Instagram story this week, Tatum shared an essay he wrote as a child. He envisioned that “Twenty years from now, I will have gone to one year at Ohio State University where I will meet Kristen. She will have gone to Ohio State’s Law School while I’m in the NBA.”
He further described having two children, their sports activities, and his career with the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.
Clearly, Tatum’s path took a different turn. He played one season (2016-17) with the Blue Devils before entering the NBA Draft.
In his seventh season with the Celtics, Tatum won his first NBA title and is now part of Team USA, aiming for a gold medal in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
