LATEST: Major 5-Star Safety Target confirms commits to Texas Longhorns
Currently, Williams is ranked as the No. 10 player in the nation, the No. 1 safety in the country, and the No. 3 player in Texas, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Last season, as a junior, Williams excelled on both sides of the ball. He caught 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns, and rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on offense. On defense, he recorded 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and four interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. Additionally, he returned two punts and two kicks for scores.
But do the Longhorns really stand a chance at landing Williams?
One factor that could help the Longhorns is their new head baseball coach, Jim Schlossnagle.
Williams is also a major baseball prospect and had the Aggies high on his list, largely due to his affinity for the new Texas coach.
In a recent interview, Williams indicated that this move could significantly impact his recruitment.
“That would be pretty crazy,” Williams told 247Sports last month. “It would definitely move Texas up.”
Currently, Texas does not have a commitment from a safety prospect, though Phillips is projected to be capable of playing that position at the next level.
