BREAKING: 5-Star Texas Target Announces Commitment
The Texas Longhorns won’t have to wait long to find out their status with five-star safety Jonah Williams. The Longhorns have a handful of top-tier targets left on the board for the 2025 recruiting cycle, with Williams being one of the primary ones.
Jonah Williams, a five-star safety from Ball (Galveston, TX), is set to visit the 40 Acres this weekend along with several other elite prospects. According to reports from On3 on Wednesday, Williams has scheduled his commitment date for August 24, when he will choose between Texas, Oregon, Texas A&M, LSU, and USC.
Currently, Williams is ranked as the No. 10 player in the nation, the No. 1 safety in the country, and the No. 3 player in Texas according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Last season, Williams excelled on both sides of the ball. As a junior, he caught 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns, and rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on offense. On defense, he recorded 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and four interceptions, with three pick-sixes. He also returned two punts and two kicks for touchdowns.
Williams is also a notable baseball prospect and previously had Texas A&M high on his list, largely due to his admiration for Texas’s new baseball coach, Jim Schlossnagle. With Schlossnagle now at Texas, this could positively impact the Longhorns’ chances of landing Williams.
Currently, Texas does not have a commitment from a safety prospect, though four-star corner commit Kade Phillips is projected to potentially play that position at the next level.
