Latest report: Angels Get Best News Possible on Mike Trout
The Angels’ star player, Mike Trout, received positive news on Friday. An MRI on his left knee came back clean, though the timeline for his return remains uncertain.
Trout’s rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake was cut short after just one at-bat. He struck out against El Paso pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. and then left the game due to discomfort in his left knee. Trout had previously undergone surgery for a meniscus injury in that knee on April 29, and Tuesday’s at-bat was his first game action since the procedure.
Initially, Angels manager Ron Washington suggested that Trout could rejoin the Salt Lake lineup on Wednesday. However, Trout flew back to Southern California for follow-up testing. If the MRI had shown any setbacks, it would have diminished the Angels’ optimism regarding Trout’s return.
Now, Trout is waiting for clearance to resume running, with hopes of ramping up his rehab again. According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, this could happen “within days.”
Mike Trout underwent an MRI exam on his left knee and he said it came back clean. Said some scar tissue broke up in his knee and it didn’t feel right at the time. He said he’s not running right now but is days away. Called it a relief.

At 32, Trout was hitting .220 with a .325 on-base percentage and 10 home runs in 109 at-bats before his injury. The Angels have struggled without him, entering Friday’s game against the Oakland A’s with a 45-58 record and are expected to trade some veteran players ahead of Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline.
Trout is under contract for six more years as part of the 12-year, $426.5 million extension he signed in March 2019. Over his 14-season career with the Angels, he has maintained a .299 batting average with 378 home runs and 954 RBIs.
