Explosive wide receiver Kaliq Lockett will announce his commitment live on the 247Sports YouTube channel. This summer has seen numerous significant commitments in college football, and another highly-ranked player is about to decide. Five-star Sachse (Texas) wide receiver Kaliq Lockett will reveal his choice next Wednesday, Aug. 7, at noon CT/1 p.m. ET during a live announcement on the 247Sports YouTube channel. Lockett will choose between Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M.
247Sports ranks the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Lockett as the No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2025, the No. 2 wide receiver, and the No. 5 player in Texas.
Lockett debuted in the Top247 as a four-star prospect in August 2022, but it wasn’t until his impressive junior season last fall that he began attracting more attention from schools. Lockett has 31 offers from programs nationwide and took official visits to all his finalists over the summer.
Throughout the spring and summer, each school on his list had moments of buzz. LSU and Florida State were prominent in the early spring, while Texas and Texas A&M gained traction following visits to the in-state schools. Alabama emerged suddenly during the summer, securing a late official visit and looking strong after that trip.
Texas currently leads the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions entering the announcement. The Longhorns need a win after missing out on several high-value targets, including the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver, Dakorien Moore, who chose Oregon in July.
Each team in contention has presented a complete vision to Lockett regarding on-field plans and life after football. After concluding his visits in June, Lockett and his family took some time to consider his options before setting an announcement date.
As a junior, Lockett caught 59 passes for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 247Sports scouting report on Lockett reads:
“Tall, long-armed, physically gifted high-major receiver prospect with excellent on-field context accompanying limitless long-term potential. Possesses enormous hands and a 6-foot-7 wingspan. Dexterous and strong-handed. Displays advanced body control, vertical bounce, and timing. More than capable of going up and over multiple defenders to get contested throws. Freaky functional athlete who can elevate, land on his feet, and burst into full gait. Detonates out of cuts with explosive acceleration. Owner of impressive combine testing and solid track and field results.
“Exceptional production as a junior with 59-1,299-13 (22.0 per catch), improving from 43 ypg as a sophomore to 118 ypg as a junior. Might lack the very top-end speed of the fastest receivers in the class, but is plenty fast and compensates with other attributes. Occasionally lets the ball get into him but shows iron traps for hands in contested situations. His junior highlight reel is frankly insane. Projects to the high-major level as a likely impact player with long-term NFL Draft early-round potential.”
