Report: White Sox trade Another star player to Orioles
The White Sox continue to make moves as the trade deadline approaches, with ESPN’s Jeff Passan reporting that they are finalizing a deal to send Eloy Jiménez to the Orioles. Although the return is not yet known, Francys Romero suggests that the White Sox are likely to receive a low-level prospect, indicating this trade is primarily a salary dump.
Jiménez, 27, is in the final year of his contract, earning $13 million this season from a six-year, $43 million deal. He technically has two club option years remaining on his contract, according to Spotrac.
Jiménez’s tenure with the White Sox has been marred by injuries, limiting him to an average of 95 games per season over the past five years, excluding the shortened 2020 season. From 2021 to 2023, he played in only 53% of possible games.

Once considered one of baseball’s top prospects, Jiménez hasn’t fully realized his potential as a power hitter, with his rookie season’s 31 home runs remaining his career-high. This season, he’s hitting .240 with five home runs and 18 RBIs, along with 47 strikeouts and 18 walks over 65 games, which is his fourth-highest game count in a season.
