Breaking: Longhorns Confirms The Signing Of Another Highly Rated Star
Texas has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) with star to play basketball at The University of Texas for the 2024-25 season, as announced by head coach Rodney Terry. Kaluma, a forward from Glendale, Arizona, spent last season at Kansas State University and the two previous years at Creighton University.
Standing at 6’7″ and weighing 225 pounds, Kaluma has played in 101 career games (99 starts) and has amassed 1,233 points (12.2 ppg) and 619 rebounds (6.1 rpg) over 3,055 minutes (30.2 mpg) during his three seasons at Kansas State (2023-24) and Creighton (2021-23). He has shot 43.1% from the floor (423-982) and 72.8% from the free throw line (268-368). Kaluma has scored in double figures 68 times, including ten 20-point games, and has achieved double digits in rebounds nine times with eight double-doubles. He has one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.
During his junior season at Kansas State in 2023-24, Kaluma played in 33 games (32 starts) and led the team in rebounding (7.0 rpg), while ranking third in scoring (14.4 ppg), assists (67), steals (27), and minutes (34.5 mpg). He helped the Wildcats to a 19-15 record and an NIT First Round appearance. An All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection, he shot 42.7% from the floor, 34.5% from three-point range, and 74.7% from the free throw line. Kaluma was one of only four Big 12 players to rank in the top 15 in both scoring (13th) and rebounding (fifth). He scored in double figures 28 times, including six 20-point games, and recorded five double-doubles. He was named Big 12 Player of the Week on December 11 after averaging 21.5 points and 10.0 rebounds with a 76.2% shooting percentage over wins against Villanova and LSU. Kaluma set a career-high with 28 points and 10 rebounds against BYU on February 24.
In his sophomore year at Creighton (2022-23), Kaluma started all 37 games, ranking third in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and blocked shots (21), fourth in assists (61), and fifth in scoring (11.8 ppg) and minutes (29.4 mpg). He contributed to Creighton’s 24-13 record and their first trip to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. He shot 42.3% from the floor and 73.6% from the free throw line, scoring in double figures 26 times, including two 20-point games, and registering two double-doubles. Kaluma recorded a season-high 27 points against BYU and added 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds at Connecticut.
As a freshman at Creighton (2021-22), Kaluma played in 31 games (30 starts) and helped the team to a 23-12 record and an NCAA Tournament Round of 32 appearance. He earned spots on the BIG EAST All-Freshman and All-Tournament teams and was twice named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Kaluma ranked second on the team in blocks (18), third in rebounding (5.4 rpg), and fifth in scoring (10.4 ppg) and minutes (26.8 mpg). He shot 44.4% from the floor and 67.1% from the free throw line, reaching double figures in scoring 14 times, including two 20-point games. Kaluma scored a season-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Kansas in the NCAA Tournament.
Kaluma played his senior year of high school at Dream City Christian in Glendale, Arizona, where he averaged 24.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals while shooting 52.5% from the floor. He was a consensus top-50 national recruit, ranked No. 48 by ESPN and No. 49 by 247 Sports. Kaluma scored in double figures in all 19 games, including eight 20-point games, four 30-point games, and one 40-point game. Before his senior year at Dream City, he attended Universal Academy in Irving, Texas.
