The LA Angels have placed infielder on the injured list due to right wrist inflammation. Rengifo was removed from the game yesterday following the injury, marking the second time he’s been placed on the IL this season.
Angels Injury Bug Continues Placing Infielder on IL

Luis Rengifo, a 27-year-old Venezuelan infielder, made his MLB debut with the Angels in 2019 and has spent his entire career with the team. He’s been hitting .300 this season with six home runs, 30 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases. The injury is tough news for the Angels, already dealing with the loss of veteran Mike Trout, who will miss the rest of the season due to a meniscus tear in his left knee. This new injury for Rengifo follows a wrist injury earlier in the season, which happened during a swing in the eighth inning of yesterday’s game. He missed three weeks during his last stint on the IL.
July was particularly challenging for the Angels, with five players (Jose Cisnero, Andrew Wantz, Anthony Rendon, and Chase Silseth) going on the IL. August hasn’t been much better, reflecting a season that’s slipping away. Charles Leblanc, a 28-year-old Canadian infielder who previously played for the Miami Marlins, has had his contract selected following Rengifo’s injury.
With AAA Salt Lake this season, Leblanc has a .262 batting average with 48 RBIs and 12 home runs. Further tests will be done to evaluate Rengifo’s injury. Despite this setback, the Angels secured a 5-4 victory against the New York Mets. Rengifo was also a player on the trade block before the MLB Trade Deadline, and he could be traded in the offseason.
