On Saturday, the Miami Dolphins announced the signing of a former New England Patriots offensive lineman. This move came in response to the Dolphins losing one of their own offensive linemen for the season due to an injury sustained in the team’s first preseason game. The addition helps address the depth concerns on the offensive line, ensuring the Dolphins have the necessary protection and versatility as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Kion Smith will miss the 2024 season

On Saturday, the Miami Dolphins announced the signing of a former New England Patriots offensive lineman, addressing the need for depth following a significant injury to one of their own players. Offensive lineman Kion Smith will miss the entire 2024 season after tearing his ACL during the Dolphins’ first preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night.

Smith’s injury is one of several affecting the Dolphins’ offensive line. Starting guard Isaiah Wynn remains on the active/PUP list as he recovers from a season-ending quad injury he suffered last year, while starting center Aaron Brewer is dealing with a hand injury sustained last week, although it is not considered serious. The addition of the former Patriots lineman is crucial for the Dolphins as they navigate these challenges and prepare for the season ahead.

The Miami Dolphins sign Chasen Hines

On Saturday, the Miami Dolphins placed offensive lineman Kion Smith on injured reserve and signed Chasen Hines to fill the roster spot. Hines, who spent the 2023 season on the Dolphins’ practice squad, was initially signed by Miami on August 31, 2023. Although he was elevated once during that time, he did not appear in a game. Hines, a sixth-round pick (210th overall) by the New England Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft, played college football at LSU, where he appeared in 35 games with 17 starts and was part of LSU’s 2019 national championship team.

Smith, who was listed as the Dolphins’ No. 3 left guard, will be replaced by Hines, who is expected to assume a backup role during the preseason. This move helps address the Dolphins’ offensive line depth issues following Smith’s season-ending injury.
