Florida defensive lineman Jamari Lyons will be sidelined for the 2024 season due to a broken ankle, as announced by Gators coach Billy Napier on Monday. Lyons sustained the injury during the team’s first fall camp scrimmage and was seen being carted off the field with his leg in an air cast, according to 247Sports. Napier expressed the significance of Lyons’ injury, noting that his dedication and impact on the team were evident when all 132 players gathered to support him as he was taken off the field. Lyons, a redshirt sophomore, played in all 12 games last season, starting one, and recorded 20 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. The 6-foot-4 defensive lineman, who was a four-star recruit from Melbourne, Fla., in the Class of 2022, will miss the Gators’ opening game against No. 19 Miami on August 31.
