Major Breaking: Texas Running Backs Take Another Hit as freshman RB Suffers Serious Leg Injury
The running back situation for one of the SEC’s top contenders is thinning rapidly. After losing starting running back CJ Baxter to a season-ending knee injury last week, the Texas Longhorns have now lost another potential contributor.
Freshman running back Christian Clark has reportedly sustained a serious lower leg injury, according to Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods. While the injury is believed to be significant, it is not thought to be an ACL tear.
Clark’s role as a true freshman was uncertain, but with Baxter’s injury last week, Texas has been searching for additional options to support new starter Jaydon Blue in the backfield. With two running backs now sidelined, Texas is considering moving redshirt freshman wide receiver Ryan Niblett to running back, according to Richardson.
With just over two weeks until the season opener, whether it’s Niblett, freshman Jerrick Gibson, or someone else, Texas still faces questions about the depth in their backfield behind Blue.
