Just In: Cowboys Confirms The Signing An Offensive Tackle
OXNARD, Calif. — The Dallas Cowboys have signed offensive tackle Cohl Cabral following a workout on Wednesday morning. To make room on the roster, they waived/injured defensive end Shaka Toney, who had been with the team for just 13 days before suffering a groin injury.
The addition of Cabral comes as a response to the injury troubles at tackle. Chuma Edoga is expected to miss a significant portion of the regular season due to a toe injury, and second-year tackle Earl Bostick Jr. was carted off the field on Wednesday with a lower right leg injury.
The tackle depth is now a concern, with only Matt Waletzko, Asim Richards, and Josh Ball available. Ball moved to left tackle with the second-team unit after Bostick’s injury, marking his first significant reps at that position in camp; he has primarily worked on the right side. Rookie Nathan Thomas, who is also a depth option, has been sidelined with an injury for over a week.
Cabral, who joins the camp with a chance to provide valuable depth, has previous experience with the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans, and Minnesota Vikings, as well as playing in the United Football League with the Birmingham Stallions.
The Cowboys also evaluated offensive tackle Dru Samia, a former fourth-round pick by the Vikings in 2019 who has had stints with the New York Jets and Arlington Renegades in the UFL.
