Breaking: Miami Hurricanes land another 5-Star commitment over Florida State and LSU
The Miami Hurricanes have secured a major commitment, a highly regarded safety from Miami Columbus. Fitzgerald, a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports composite ranking, announced his verbal commitment to Miami on Saturday night via Instagram Live, choosing the Hurricanes over other top programs like Florida, Florida State, and LSU.
Ranked as the No. 12 safety in the 2025 class, the No. 21 player in Florida, and the No. 130 prospect nationally, Fitzgerald made a significant impact in his junior year after transferring to Columbus from Belen Jesuit, where he recorded 10 interceptions (five during the playoffs) to help the Explorers secure their second consecutive state title.
He also contributes off the bench for Columbus’ three-time state champion basketball team. With Fitzgerald’s commitment, Miami’s 2025 recruiting class now includes 22 players, 10 of whom are blue-chip prospects.
Recent commits include Seuseu Alofaituli, Gavin Nix, Hylton Stubbs, Jaboree Antoine, Daylyn Upshaw, Donta Simpson, and Mykah Newton. Fitzgerald is the first safety in the class, joining four cornerbacks: Antoine, Amari Wallace, Chris Ewald, and Timothy Merrit.
