Injury: Mets 5 Star Outfielder Exits Game With Shoulder Injury
Just as one Mets outfielder makes a return, another faces an exit.
Brandon Nimmo left Sunday’s game against the Marlins after striking out to end the eighth inning, with the Mets reporting he left due to right shoulder discomfort, as noted by Mike Puma.
Nimmo had been 1-for-3 with a solo home run that put the Mets ahead in the sixth inning. He also made a diving catch in left field during the top of the seventh, although there was no immediate indication that the play caused his injury.
Though early in his career Nimmo was plagued by injuries, limiting him to just one season with over 100 games in his first five years, he has been more durable recently. He has played over 150 games and had more than 670 plate appearances in each of the last two seasons. Since 2022, he has posted a slash line of .262/.359/.458 over 418 games.
Earlier in the day, the Mets activated outfielder Starling Marte, who has been sidelined since late June. To clear space on the roster, outfielder Ben Gamel was designated for assignment.
