Retirement: Longhorns Two-Time Heisman Trophy Finalist And NFL QB Retire From Football
Quarterback Colt McCoy, who enjoyed a standout college career with the Texas Longhorns and played 14 NFL seasons with five teams, is retiring from football to transition into broadcasting.
“Thank you football,” McCoy shared on social media, accompanied by a career highlight video. “Excited for the next chapter.”
At 37 years old, McCoy was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist during his time at Texas, where he won an NCAA Division I-record 45 games as a four-year starter from 2006 to 2009. He led the Longhorns to the BCS National Championship game in 2010 after a perfect 12-0 regular season and a Big 12 title.
Drafted in the third round by the Cleveland Browns in 2010, McCoy went on to record an 11-25 record over 36 starts with the Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Commanders, New York Giants, and Arizona Cardinals, his final team for the 2022 season.
Over his career, McCoy threw for 7,975 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions in 56 games.
McCoy will now work as an analyst for NBC covering Big Ten games, starting with the Colorado-Nebraska game on September 7.
“College football has always been close to my heart. With the Big Ten’s expansion and the new era of college football, it’s the perfect time to join NBC Sports,” McCoy said. “I’m excited to be part of the passion, excitement, and competitive spirit each week.”
