One of Florida’s top flip targets is planning to be in attendance for the Gators’ big season opener next weekend.

The Florida Gators have long been in pursuit of Opelika (AL) five-star defensive lineman, despite his early commitment to the Auburn Tigers. Autry, one of the top defensive line prospects in the nation, has remained open to taking visits even after pledging to Auburn, and the University of Florida has been one of the schools he’s visited most frequently outside of Auburn.

Autry last visited Gainesville for his official visit back in June, where he spent time with the Gators’ coaching staff, toured the facilities, and got a closer look at the program. While he is viewed as a tough flip from Auburn, given his strong ties to the Tigers, Autry has shown a willingness to explore other options, making him a prime target for the Gators as they continue to build their 2025 recruiting class.

With the college football season fast approaching, Autry recently confirmed to Swamp247 that he plans to be in The Swamp for Florida’s season opener against the Miami Hurricanes. This visit is a significant development for the Gators, as they look to make a strong impression on one of their top defensive line targets.

Autry originally committed to Auburn in February of last year, and since then, he’s made several visits to their campus, solidifying his relationship with the Tigers’ coaching staff. Despite this, Florida and other programs, including Ohio State, have continued to pursue him, hoping to sway his commitment.

Malik Autry, Opelika, Defensive Line

While Autry’s commitment to Auburn appeared more solid as the summer came to a close, Florida has not given up on the talented defensive lineman. The Gators have kept the lines of communication open, with their coaching staff staying persistent in their efforts to flip him. Autry’s upcoming visit to Gainesville could be crucial in their pursuit, as the Gators aim to make a lasting impression during one of the most anticipated games of the season.

As the Gators prepare to take on the Miami Hurricanes, all eyes will be on how the team performs on the field—and whether they can make enough of an impact on Autry to sway his commitment in their favor.
