DONE: Boston Red Sox high top rated 5 times key man is Suspended from MLB
On Sunday, August 11, 2024, during the Boston Red Sox’s game against the Houston Astros, outfielder Jarren Duran used a highly offensive slur toward a fan in the stands. This incident led to Duran being handed a two-game suspension, which began with the Red Sox’s matchup against the Texas Rangers on Monday, August 12. Curious about what Duran said to receive such a severe punishment? Continue reading to learn more.
What did Jarren Duran say?
During the game, a fan taunted Jarren Duran, suggesting he needed a tennis racket to hit the baseball. In response, Duran turned toward the fan during his at-bat and shouted a homophobic slur, saying, “Shut up, you f–king f—-t,” before resuming his stance for the next pitch.
After the Red Sox’s 10-2 loss, Duran issued an apology, acknowledging that he used a “truly horrific word” and expressing deep regret over the incident. He stated that he would treat it as a learning experience, adding, “I feel awful knowing how many people I offended and disappointed. I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly to the entire LGBTQ community. Our young fans are supposed to be able to look up to me as a role model, but tonight, I fell far short of that responsibility.”
Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reported that Duran still regrets the situation. On Monday, August 12, Pete posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Duran said his comment was made in the “heat of the moment.”
As a result of his remarks, the Red Sox and MLB issued Duran a two-game unpaid suspension. Additionally, his salary from those two games was donated to PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays).
