REPORT: Alex Cora Confess After Red Sox’s Tough Loss To Astros
As the regular season winds down and the playoffs approach, players and coaches in every sport often claim that they aren’t paying attention to what’s happening around the league, insisting they’re solely focused on their own game. They aim to convey an image of unyielding concentration on the task at hand, even though it’s natural to be curious about the competition.
However, Alex Cora isn’t following that script. After the Red Sox dropped a 5-4 game to Houston on Monday night, putting them 4 1/2 games behind the final American League wild-card spot, Cora was refreshingly candid.
“I check the standings constantly,” Cora admitted to reporters, according to The Boston Globe. “I keep an eye on the scoreboard. I know Kansas City won. I watch.”
Cora is fully aware of the uphill battle his team faces with September approaching. The Red Sox have just 38 games left in the regular season, 15 of which are against teams currently holding postseason positions.
While Boston still has a shot at making it to October baseball, the clock is ticking.
