Former Texas Longhorns and NFL quarterback Colt McCoy has officially retired from the NFL after a 12-year career. He was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

The 37-year-old quarterback had an outstanding collegiate career with the Texas Longhorns, earning prestigious honors like the Big-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year award in 2006, the Big-12 Offensive Player of the Year award in 2009, and being a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist.

During the 2009 season, McCoy led the Longhorns to a perfect 12-0 record, secured a Big-12 Championship win over Nebraska, and earned a spot in the 2010 National Championship Game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, his college career ended on a disappointing note when he suffered a right shoulder injury in the first quarter of that game.

McCoy was the fourth quarterback selected in the draft, following Sam Bradford (No. 1), Tim Tebow (No. 25), and Jimmy Clausen (No. 48).

As the all-time passing leader for the Texas Longhorns, McCoy went on to play for several NFL teams, including the Cleveland Browns (2010-2012), San Francisco 49ers (2013), Washington Commanders (2014-2019), New York Giants (2020), and Arizona Cardinals (2021-2022).

Throughout his NFL career, McCoy served primarily as a dependable backup quarterback, finishing with an 11-25 record as a starter. In his last season in 2022, McCoy recorded 7,975 passing yards, 34 touchdowns, 32 interceptions, and a 62.6 percent completion rate.

The former third-round pick is now set to begin a new chapter as a college football broadcaster for NBC Sports, with the 2024 season just around the corner.
