DONE: Michigan football commit another 5-star RB
Michigan football has gained significant momentum in recruiting over the summer, and the Wolverines aim to extend that success into the 2026 class.
They’ve already made strides with the commitment of top-100 quarterback Brady Hart, one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2026 class from Cocoa, Florida. Hart kicked off his senior season in impressive fashion, throwing five touchdowns in the first half of his opening game.
Tony Alford, Michigan’s running backs coach, has also been concentrating on the 2026 class, with five-star running back Savion Hiter as one of his primary targets. Hiter, a 6-foot, 200-pound standout from Virginia, is ranked 29th overall in the 2026 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Hiter attended Michigan’s recruiting BBQ at the end of July, which was enough to secure the Wolverines a spot in his top five, alongside Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, and Penn State.
According to Chad Simmons of On3.com, Tennessee and Georgia left a strong impression on Hiter during the summer, while he described his visit to Michigan as “great.”
Handicapping Michigan’s chances with 5-star running back
This recruitment situation is a bit unpredictable at the moment. Tennessee and Georgia have gained some traction, but Ohio State remains a strong contender.
Michigan football has made its own impact, with Hiter’s recent visit moving the needle, albeit slightly. Notably, this was Hiter’s second visit to Michigan in 2024, following a spring visit.
Both Ohio State and Georgia have also hosted Hiter twice this year, which gives them a slight edge according to the On3 prediction machine. Meanwhile, Tennessee has been making strides on the recruiting trail, so they can’t be ruled out either.
