Florida State football’s coaching staff is expecting several top prospects to visit Tallahassee this weekend, many of whom are from the 2025 recruiting cycle. Seminole fans are particularly focused on these prospects, given that Florida State currently ranks 70th in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Concerns are growing among fans as rival programs Miami and Florida continue to secure commitments.

Since four-star defensive end Javion Hilson flipped from Alabama in January following Nick Saban’s retirement, the Seminoles haven’t landed a commitment in the 2025 class.

Despite a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons, which reflects the sustainable success head coach Mike Norvell has built, Florida State has struggled to attract top-tier recruits. However, things took a positive turn on Saturday afternoon when Brady Smigiel, a five-star quarterback from the Class of 2026 out of Newbury Park, California, committed to Florida State following his unofficial visit to the campus this weekend.

The talented quarterback has been on the Seminoles’ radar for quite some time, with Florida State extending an offer to him on January 17, 2023. Despite being from California, Smigiel has visited Florida State twice in the last two months.

While some may overlook 2026 prospects, this is a significant development for the future foundation of the Seminoles’ program. In his two seasons as a starter at Newbury Park, Smigiel has amassed 7,701 yards, 98 touchdowns, and just 25 interceptions.

The Seminoles are building a solid core at the quarterback position for the future with players like Brock Glenn, Luke Kromenhoek, Trever Jackson, Tramell Jones Jr. (if he remains committed), and now Brady Smigiel. The coaching staff has hit their stride in quarterback recruiting.
