SIDNEY, Ohio — Tavien St. Clair, a five-star quarterback committed to Ohio State, delivered a standout performance in his senior season opener for Bellefontaine High School. The top QB recruit for the class of 2025 threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for two more touchdowns on Friday night.

St. Clair guided Bellefontaine to a 48-21 win over Sidney in their Week 1 matchup of the Ohio high school football season.

“I’m excited about the foundation we’ve built for this season,” St. Clair said. “It’s evident from the results that all our hard work is paying off.”

In the game, St. Clair showcased his all-around skills, completing 17 of 27 passes and rushing for 77 yards, most of which came from scrambling. His running was marked by agility and explosiveness, while his passing was precise and confident. He clearly stood out as the most athletic player on the field.

“I was really impressed with our offensive line,” St. Clair said. “They gave me the opportunity to make big plays by holding their ground. My ability to move and make plays downfield was made possible by their efforts.”

St. Clair also highlighted his connection with teammate, wide receiver Braylon Newcomb, who amassed 235 receiving yards and three touchdowns, setting a Bellefontaine school record.

“This is exactly what we expected,” St. Clair said about his rapport with Newcomb. “Our chemistry has been a focus, and we knew we’d be tough to stop.”

After the game, St. Clair was approached by a group of kids from Sidney’s sideline eager for photos. He gladly posed with each one, smiling throughout.

“I remember being in their shoes, wanting pictures with players I admired,” St. Clair said. “It’s really special to be recognized and appreciated by the younger generation. I love giving back to them.”

St. Clair spent significant time after the game signing autographs, taking photos, and engaging with fans of all ages from the opposing team’s hometown, clearly relishing every moment.

“I can’t fully express how much it means to me and my family that these kids look up to me and want to connect,” St. Clair said. “It’s a huge blessing.”
