DONE DEAL: Texas Longhorns confirm 5-star defense weapon commitment
It’s rare for a school to secure a prospect with the potential to become a true generational athlete, but that’s exactly what Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program achieved when 2025 standout Jonah Williams committed to the Longhorns on Saturday night, according to a tweet from Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Ranked as the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, Jonah Williams is listed by various outlets either as a safety or a linebacker, showcasing his versatility as a 6’3″, 205-pound athlete capable of playing multiple positions on the field. According to 247Sports analyst Hunter Standish, Williams is “a modern defensive chess piece who can move all around the defense while remaining effective against a wide range of offensive schemes and play styles.” Given his size, skill set, and athletic profile, it’s fitting to compare him to Baltimore Ravens All-Pro Kyle Hamilton, whom Williams has mentioned as a player he tries to emulate.
But Jonah Williams isn’t just a potentially game-changing defensive talent. During his junior season, he was named Texas District 9-5A D-I Defensive Player of the Year, while also amassing over 600 yards and 10 touchdowns on 22 offensive touches. Oh, and he’s also one of the top baseball recruits in the nation.
